And now that Red Jam has taken over the running of the Function Centre and Cafe/Bistro, the experience is even more fulfilling.
When we arrived in 2006, the Function Centre was under-utilised and the Cafe/Bistro had seen better days. Both needed some drastic and immediate attention.
The Function Centre had a total refit – new kitchen, furniture, plates, glasses, you name it! We also installed a totally integrated sound system. It now looks fantastic, and, more importantly, it’s profitable.
The Cafe/Bistro was also refurbished, but the big change has been in the quality of food and service. Now, most of the food is freshly prepared, with a lot more healthy options. We also replaced and re-invigorated the staff, and the service is now very good – friendly and fast, with virtually no queuing. And from a viability point of view, the amount spent per head has doubled.
From the Zoo’s point of view, they now have two value-adding assets. It’s great for them and it’s great for us.
